Our company, Vocation Coaching & Development Institute and Transitional Coaching & Development Institute are two programs serving adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Our Transitional program (TCDI) works with adults coming out of High School and focuses on independent living skills and socialization. Our Vocational program (VCDI) focuses on gaining skills to look for, acquire and maintain independent employment. Our team works happily to keep our environment a fun, friendly and supportive place for clients to step out of their comfort zones and really grow. JOB DESCRIPTION VOCATIONAL SUPPORT MENTOR
Job Title: Vocational Support Mentor

FLSA Status: Non-Exemt

Salary: TBD/DOE

Work Hours: 8:30am to 3:00pm, M - F

SUMMARY

Vocational Support Mentors report directly to the Program Directors and are responsible for the delivery of quality training, services and assistance, with a special emphasis in vocational skills development, to referred adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities that are behaviorally challenged and/or dual diagnosed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary role of this position is to conducts small group trainings both inside the building and out in the community. Trainings are for vocational skills, independent living skills and socialization. Additionally, this role is responsible for on site and off site job coaching of individuals with independent employment. To be successful in this role, candidates should excel in these areas.
1. Must be willing and able to function productively in a team-centered work environment.
2. Be able to communicate effectively in oral and written form.
3. Work directly with Program Directors to ensure appropriate supervision and training to individuals serviced by VCDI & TCDI.
4. Review, analyze, develop and identify versions of vocational support and training to ensure ever-adapting curriculum and practices to meet the goals of regional center clientele.
5. Develop and administer goal-oriented, vocational services that further promote individual independence in clients’ respective places of employment and communities.
6. Exercise good judgment in the execution of behavioral crisis interventions.
7. Professionally represent VCDI & TCDI in all outside contacts.

8. Successfully complete all trainings as required by federal, state, county and other funding agencies, as well as, trainings as identified by the Program Manager and/or Program Director, with recommendation of the board of directors.
9. Requires availability of safe and reliable vehicle for the purpose of transporting program consumers in the community.
10. Requires proof of automobile liability insurance and registration in CA DMV PULL .
11. Other duties may be assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This job has no supervisorial responsibilities. EDUCATION
1. High school diploma or equivalent; and
2. Have basic knowledge of psychology.
3. This position does not require the completion of CEUs.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Must be at least 18 years of age.
2. Must be able to complete fingerprint clearance and standard criminal record statement.
3. Must complete a health screening and tuberculosis test within 12 months prior to employment or within seven days following employment.
4. Must have basic computer knowledge.
5. Must possess a valid California driver’s license.
6. Must possess valid automobile insurance as required by California law.
7. Must be physically and mentally fit to work with individuals who can be potentially harmful to self and/or others.
8. Must be able to meet or exceed VCDI functional capabilities standard physical and pass a drug test.

9. Must be currently certified in Pro-ACT (or like approved behavioral crisis intervention course).
10. Must have successfully completed and maintain recognized First Aid and Adult CPR certification.
11. Must be able to obtain a water safety certification (if supervising consumers utilizing a pool or other body of water from which rescue requires the rescuer’s ability to swim).

LANGUAGE SKILLS
1. Ability to read and interpret documents, such as data.
2. Ability to effectively utilize language to behaviorally summarize and to write progress notes.
3. Ability to speak effectively before relevant agencies, representatives and third- parties.

MATHAMETICAL SKILLS
1. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
2. Basic statistics.
3. Must also have the ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY
1. Must have the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out
instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
2. Also possess the ability to respond to crisis situations in a safe and responsible
manner.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
1. Ability to move quickly, including forward and backwards and side to side in response to assault situations.

2. May require the ability to stabilize others in their ambulation.
3. Required to sit and talk or hear.
4. Frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands.
5. Jump.
6. Bend.
7. Stand and walk.
8. Lift excess of 50 lbs., routinely.
